Position Summary:

Manages financial and operational control and performance activities within one or more plants, including analysis of sales and margin performance, assessment of operational efficiencies, and cost accounting. Ensures the plant’s control processes and systems comply with company policies, with particular emphasis on inventory control and costing. Evaluates plant operational results against the annual operating plan and directs the preparation of financial, production output, and other reports used to measure and control plant activities and costs. Facilitates the plant-level financial and capital budgeting process.

As a member of the plant leadership team, recommend and implement programs and develop management reporting systems to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, and optimize costs. Ensures that special project and department goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates all production and financial reports for all plant processes and analyzes all business trends and provides required explanations.

  • Provides support to plant leadership for plant performance analysis and ad hoc projects and recommends improvement opportunities to all plant department practices and processes.

  • Monitors all plant activities and ensures compliance to all corporate standards.

  • Leads and facilitates the plant performance assessment strategy which includes developing, implementing and tracking the appropriate metrics, benchmarks, and reporting necessary to evaluate plant performance.

  • Reviews financial results and key performance indicators with plant and finance leadership.

  • Designs and maintains standard costs of all plant products and analyzes production cost variances.

  • Reconciles all physical inventory and maintains accuracy in transactions and records for all inventory.

  • Analyzes customer profitability and product costing and recommends appropriate pricing and contracts.

  • Provides support to financial information technology team to advise system upgrades and implement new systems.

  • Builds and maintains plant forecasts for plant and finance leadership.

  • Monitors customer invoicing process and receivables status and partners with the Accounts Receivable team to resolve all payment issues.

  • Accountable for forecasting, annual budgeting and long range / other strategic planning for the plant.

  • Develops and maintains working relationships with key operational staff to monitor operating costs, loss of product, samples, credit claims, return of product and other margin adjustments.

  • Participates in process and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Interviews, hires, trains, and retains staff. Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiating follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources when appropriate for the department. Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars, etc. Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge of operations and production environment economics, the financial markets and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

  • This position demands a high level of integrity, self-reliance, thoroughness and attention to detail.

  • Possess familiarity with product cost management and standard costing derivation and variance analysis.

  • Ability to make decisive judgments and the creativity to develop fresh perspectives and new ideas for issues at hand.

  • Knowledge of SAP, Blackline, Top Form and Anaplan applications as well as general product cost reporting and related systems.

  • Must be able to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with others in the accomplishment of organizational goals.

Minimum Years of Experience:

Five to seven years previous finance, accounting, operational or production experience in a manufacturing or other production plant environment, with one to three years previous management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
