SUMMARY
The Punch Press Machinist maximizes efficiency through the process of set-ups and operations of heavy duty power press machines to bend, form, stretch, and straighten metal plates, metal extrusions, formed sheet metal, structural shapes, forgings and weldments.
Individual will be responsible for the processes methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Independently sets-up, operates and maintains a heavy duty power press machines according to detail blueprints, specifications, work orders and instructions. Selects and obtains proper material and tooling for the job. Checks tooling and reworks as needed to manufacture part to print specification.
- (For Pin Production Only) Sets up and runs up to 2 automated cut off machine while operating hand fed punch press.
- Operates power press machines to manufacture various types of fasteners. Maintains correct dimensions of parts while running the job using measuring instruments such as micrometers, comparators, calipers, and gauges, inspects completed parts to ensure they meet blueprints/specifications.
- Examine completed work pieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
- Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
- Position, test, align, and secure work pieces against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies, according to product specification, and using gauges and hand tools
- Plans sequence of operations. Measures and sights along work piece to mark reference lines
- Selects and positions special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine
- Turns hand wheel or levers to set depth and pressure of ram stroke
- Loads, lifts and positions work piece into machines between dies of machine
- Starts machines, lower ram which bends or straightens work piece between dies, monitors their operations and record operational data.
- Repositions work piece and changes dies when making multiple or successive passes
- Bends or straightens cold metal. Sets dies to punch and blank heavy metal
- Operates horizontal power press to bend or straighten long pieces of bar stock or structural shapes
- Operates press equipped with two or more rams to bend angles or flanges to radius by successive passes; or operates multiple acting hydraulic press to perform deep progressive and reverse draw operations of sheet metal.
- Instructs, trains and assist operators with machine operation, techniques and quality and productivity as required.
- Measure completed work pieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
- Assists and trains less qualified machine operators as needed.
- Recognizes improper machine functioning and makes required adjustments.
- Able to identify, perform and troubleshoot punch press operations in manufacturing for improved quality and tooling life.
- Represents Factory/Divisions on cross-functional teams or in-house committees.
- Conduct or assist with peer development training per established departmental requirements as needed.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and use shop and measuring tools.
- Demonstrated ability to use SPC and shop floor data collection systems.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- Familiar with the safety control devices and guards on mechanical power presses.
- Conducts machine safety start activities in accordance with procedures and reports non-conforming conditions to supervision
- Works under limited supervision with a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows all safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Working experience in fastener manufacturing environment
- Advance knowledge of punch press power machinery and procedures
- Working knowledge with quality and SPC.
- A minimum of 3+ years equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and basic technical procedures. Ability to write basic reports and instructions to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios and standard units of measurements.
Reasoning Ability
