Job Description:
Robertshaw’s electronics team is responsible for the hardware assemblies and software used within residential and commercial appliance controls as well as thermal management systems in electric vehicles. As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will be a leader in our electronics team, developing new product architecture, implementing hardware circuit schematics, leading PCB layout, and maintaining Robertshaw’s PCB CAD library. You should have a high aptitude for discrete analog design and digital circuit design, embedded microprocessor design, technical specification development, and leading our team to create innovative controls solutions. You will also have focus on product cost, quality, and schedule. You will be responsible for PCB design including multi-layer circuit board layout and CAD library component creation. You will coordinate with PCB fabrication vendors and Robertshaw’s factories to deliver best in class PCB designs.
This position is hybrid onsite in Itasca, Illinois. Expected travel < 5% with ability to travel internationally.
Experience and Competencies:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in PCB layout design. Experience designing agency listed (UL, CE) power supplies and high-speed digital interfaces preferred
- Experience with embedded microprocessor architectures, applications, and selection. Familiarity with 8-bit and 32-bit is a must.
- Work within a team of engineers to design embedded system, digital, analog, and power supply printed circuit board assemblies in accordance with electrical, mechanical, and company specific requirements and processes
- Maintain the ECAD library, including creation of the PCB footprints, 3D models, and schematic symbols
- Work with PCB vendors to select PCB materials, finish, and layer stack-up to meet PCB cost target and design performance
- Collaborate with internal teams and PCB vendors to continually improve design rules and Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) guidelines
- Experience using Altium Designer. Experience in migrating libraries from Siemens Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and PADS tools is a plus.
- General knowledge of electronic circuitry and able to actively participate in schematic and PCB design reviews
- Proficient in design verification including developing test plans, contributing to lab testing, and documenting results
- Ability to manage time and prioritize work across multiple projects
- Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills

- Design for advanced assembly techniques such as paste-in-hole and multi-package footprints
- IPC CID Certification
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or other STEM field
