The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location within the CHR Corporate Human Resources division.
This role is responsible for leading and supervising the Tax team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant tax filings. The position oversees adherence to tax laws, internal policies, and control procedures, while fostering strong collaboration and clear communication with employees, managers, and the broader payroll organization.
This is a supervisor role responsible for the oversight of the Tax team.
- Coach and mentor team members and assign tasks to ensure that the team’s resources are used effectively.
- They will lead by example and uphold the same expectations required of their employees.
- Ensure both you and your staff’s tasks are completed accurately and on time, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Respond to more complex, escalated inquiries from team members and check the work of others to ensure that it is accurate and timely.
- Oversee adherence to tax laws, internal policies, and control procedures, while fostering strong collaboration and clear communication with employees, managers, and the broader payroll organization.
What You'll Work On:
- Ensure financial and operational controls are followed when implementing system and process changes.
- Oversee ensuring timely review, validation, and accurate application within payroll systems in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare and process quarterly payroll tax amendments.
- Process and validate expatriate W‑2C transactions, ensuring accurate corrections to taxable wages, withholdings, and regulatory reporting across jurisdictions.
- Lead quarter-end payroll tax processes, including reconciliations, variance analysis, issue identification, and resolution to support accurate filings and payments.
- Direct payroll tax year-end activities, including W‑2 and W‑2C preparation, system validations, and coordination with stakeholders to meet regulatory deadlines.
- Establish and maintain new state, local, and leave tax jurisdictions, including system configuration, rate validation, and vendor onboarding.
- Research, resolve, and respond to tax notices and intercepts, partnering with taxing authorities, vendors, and internal teams as needed.
- Perform and oversee Social Security Administration data entry and reconciliation activities, with flexibility to transition responsibilities as organizational needs change.
Accountability, Scope, and Impact
- The Payroll Supervisor will report to either a Payroll Manager or the Payroll Director.
- They will lead by example and uphold the same expectations required of their employees.
- Respond to more complex, escalated inquiries from team members and check the work of others to ensure that it is accurate and timely.
- Ensure their staff’s tasks are completed accurately and on time, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Payroll, HR, Finance, Legal, and external vendors to support accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll tax operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage direct reports, including hiring, performance assessments, and terminations.
- Supervise staff to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure adherence to deadlines.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Associate's equivalent combination of education and work experience

$78,000.00 – $156,000.00
