In this role, you will serve as a trusted subject matter expert, partnering across payroll, finance, HR, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement. You will lead a team, drive operational excellence, and help strengthen scalable, compliant payroll practices that support Emerson’s global business.

 

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Lead a team of analysts supporting payroll processing, tax and accounting activities
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings, including quarterly returns and annual W‑2, W‑2C, and 1099 processes
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors on complex payroll tax matters and jurisdictional requirements
  • Oversee payroll accounting & 401k topics leading implementation of legislative and policy changes and supporting process and system optimizations
  • Monitor payroll and payroll tax legislation to ensure payroll activities remain compliant; facilitate system/process updates when needed
  • Oversee payroll accounting activities ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Support Mobility & the Executive Compensation team on taxation and payroll process considerations ensuring compliance with equity compensation and assignee regulations
  • Create and maintain standardized processes for tax treatment processes including visa statuses, deceased employee tax obligations and equity management
  • Provide payroll tax and accounting guidance for business initiatives, including mobility, equity compensation, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Assist the team on balance adjustments for year-end reporting of cars, clubs, moving and relocations, incentive stock options, financial planning, tuition, gift certificates, etc.
  • Lead year-end and year-begin activities; oversee the team’s delivery of tasks defined in the project plan and collaborate with key partners for successful execution on all activities
  • Drive process standardization, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
  • Promote a strong internal customer service mindset and ensure service level commitments are met
  • Maintain expertise in the software tools/integrations that are used to manage and maintain accurate payroll and payroll tax processing

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in people and/or project leadership experience preferably in a high volume, national Payroll/Finance environment 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll tax withholding, remittance and reporting activities preferably in a high volume, multi-jurisdiction environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage payroll tax activities including W2/W2C issuances, returns, and amended return filings
 
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience in payroll accounting highly preferred
  • Experience with Oracle & ADP Smart Compliance applications desired
  • Experience with payroll conversions, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures preferred
