• A Paving Equipment Operator is skilled at operating the equipment necessary to complete construction on roads, runways, or other type areas that needs ground covering. They may work to lay, spread, and even out asphalt, gravel, dirt, and other material.
***Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to all relevant industry standards, policies, and site procedures to minimize risk of injury, property damage or loss of life;
Performs daily safety and maintenance checks;
Operates machines to spread, smooth, level, or steel-reinforce stone, concrete, or asphalt on road beds;
Operates oil distributors, loaders, and dump trucks;
Coordinates truck dumping;
Sets up and tears down equipment;
Operates tamping machines or manually rolls surfaces to compact earth fills, and finished road materials, according to grade specifications;
Shovels blacktop;
Drives machines onto truck trailers and drives trucks to transport machines and material to and from job sites;
Observes distribution of paving material in order to adjust machine settings or material flow and indicates low spots for workers to add materials;
Lights burners or starts heating units of machines, and regulates screed temperatures and asphalt flow rates;
Controls paving machines to push dump trucks and to maintain a constant flow of asphalt or other material into hoppers or screeds;
Fills tanks hoppers, or machines with paving materials;
Cuts or breaks up pavement using machines equipped with interchangeable hammers;
Operates machines that clean or cuts expansion joints in asphalt and that rout out cracks in pavements;
Cleans equipment as scheduled and/or required;
Ensures equipment is safely and securely stored at close of shift;
Ability to order and calculate material per job;
Ability to layout parking spots for paint;
Advises direct supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;
Participates in routine maintenance;
Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times;
Practices workplace safety on a continual basis;
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
