ALL Patch Production positions require the following duties/skills: 

  • Must be able to work with little absenteeism and available for overtime as needed.
  • Performs other responsibilities that may be assigned

Patch Quality Control/Trim/Taper – Level 1

A QC/Trim/Taper is responsible for reviewing patches and caps post-production to ensure logos meet quality standards or will recommend rework. Will prepare pre-taped hats for the sewers.

  • Inspects finished or partially finished patch logos and headwear for defects or damage and repair.
  • Must have a high attention to detail.
  • Prepares and cleans patches per order according to established procedures.
  • Inspects, trims, and packages affixed caps in accordance with the shipping labels.
  • Follow all special instructions on the work order.
  • Cuts materials as needed for daily operations, depending on volume and needs of the department.
  • Trimming excess threads from the affixed patches.
  • Removes spots or stains from headwear.
  • Rejects or returns damaged or faulty sewing and headwear.
  • Repairs less extensive damage.
  • Packs the final product for shipment.
  • Performs routine housekeeping tasks in work area at least once per shift.  

 

 

Patch Manufacturing Operator – Level 2

A Patch Manufacturing Operator is responsible for main line production activities using multi head embroidery machines, laser etching machines, merrow edging machines, and sublimation printers to create quality products swiftly and accurately, while working safely.  

  • Interprets work orders paying close attention to all details to ensure caps and logos are accurate to size, color, and placement of artwork.   
  • Ties on new thread when changing orders.
  • Using the hat heat press, safely affixes patches to hats while ensuring proper alignment, quality, and retention.
  • Hoops hats and material repetitively (by hand or with pneumatic hoop) at hooping station and secures stable placement prior to machine operation.
  • Assists as needed in QC trimming finished product.
  • Performs routine housekeeping tasks in work area at least once per shift.

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Ability to operate multi head embroidery machines, laser etching machines, merrow edging machines, and sublimation printers.

 

 

 

Patch Sample Operator – Level 3

A Patch Sample Operator is responsible for the creation of single patch samples, searching for errors that would cause problems during production.

  • Interprets work orders paying maximum attention to all details to ensure caps and logos are accurate to size, color, and placement of artwork.   
  • Ties on new thread when changing orders.
  • Using the hat heat press, safely affixes patches to hats while ensuring proper alignment, quality, and retention.
  • Hoops hats and material repetitively (by hand or with pneumatic hoop) at hooping station and secures stable placement prior to machine operation.
  • Assists as needed in QC trimming finished product.
  • Assists as needed in production and at the discretion of the Patch Lead.
  • Performs routine housekeeping tasks in work area at least once per shift.

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Mastery of the single- and multi-head embroidery machines, laser etching machines, merrow edging machines, and sublimation printers.

 

 

Patch Sewer – Level 4

A patch sewer uses the post bed roller foot sewing machine to safely affix patches to hats while ensuring proper alignment and affixing quality.

  • Interprets work orders paying close attention to all details to ensure patches are accurate to size, color, and placement of artwork.   
  • Ties on new thread when changing orders.
  • Assists as needed in QC trimming finished product.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safety conscious work area

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Ability to operate a post bed roller foot sewing machine 

 

 

Patch Shift Lead– Level 6

A Patch Shift Lead is responsible for production activities including digitizing floor edits, sample production (when needed), main line production and quality control.  Reports issues, problems or questions to Patch Supervisor timely for resolution.

  • Monitors daily productions and quality control performance records, identifying inefficiencies and taking responsive and corrective actions where necessary assisting in all aspects on the production floor.
  • Develops and implements strategies and training toward accomplishing organization goals and values 
  • Leads by example: Sets expectations for staff and monitors delegated activities
  • Provides regular performance feedback and effective training to staff for skill development and growth
  • Coordinates and monitors flow of production orders for the floor; able to forecast work and notice potential problems in workflow.
  • Moves orders to and from machines for manufacturing operators, quality control, and taping station.
  • Approves all artwork and samples on floor
  • Matches all production paperwork with production tracking log 
  • Processing orders through Shipping process, which includes putting the pick tickets and carton labels with all orders, making sure quantities on the pick ticket match what was trimmed and adjusting if necessary.

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Intermediate level computer experience (MS Office), preferred also Simparel, Quickturn, Outlook.   

 

 

 

General Skills and Competencies required for all Patch Operators

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions (in English), short correspondence and work orders.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with co-workers and/or supervisors.
  • Basic Math:   ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions dealing with standardized situations.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, work at a fast pace, keep a positive attitude and manage with multiple deadlines.

 

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree preferred, but not mandatory
  • Embroidery, sewing and/or digitizing experience desired, but not mandatory.
  • Very Basic computer knowledge helpful; Uses in-house programs (Simparel) Quickturn

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, sit and/or walk (90% of the day) and occasionally reach, bend and move inside the facility to move product
  • Fine motor skills:  required using the wrists, hands, and fingers to hoop and inspect product  
  • Vision: Required to have close visual acuity, color vision and depth perception
  • Able to hear and effectively communicate with peers
  • Ability to lift/move/pull 10-50 lbs occasionally throughout day
  • Moderate noise due to sewing machine operation in a warehouse setting.
  • Extreme temperatures: this position will work in a building with limited climate control.
