Job Overview:

Applied Composites (AC) is seeking a Working Production Lead in the Paint Department oversees the production area in a variety of complex mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly operations in accordance with company policy and safety procedures. Ensures effective and accurate production that minimizes costs and aligns with the unit objectives.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Plans, schedules and monitors of the production cycle, following company instructions.
  • Determines staff requirements for production schedules, coordinates, monitors and trains all production staff.
  • Coordinates the efficient movement of production to meet area requirements.
  • Apply process specifications governing the production of products within an assigned cell, records production time and quantity data at the cell.
  • Performs complex precision assembly in accordance with written, visual and verbal instruction.
  • Conducts inspections of own and/or other associates work to ensure correctness in accordance with company and/or customer drawing.
  • Perform aircraft part preparation by cleaning, sanding, and masking.
  • Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative.
  • Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Follow standard operating procedures when using sealants, paint strippers and corrosion-preventive chemicals and use protective equipment as required.
  • Follow standard operating procedures when using tools and equipment such as dual action sanders and paint sprayers.
  • Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools.
  • Utilize the company's ERP system to accurately track time and materials for customer jobs.
  • Keep paint areas neat and clean.
  • Undertake work within the capabilities you are certified to or as directed by your manager.
  • Work to be done in compliance with Government, Customer and Regulatory Bodies.
  • Paints a variety of parts, components, or systems in support of the production process.
  • Preps parts for application of wet and/or powder coat painting process.
  • Communicates issues regarding defects or quality control problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Understands and follows hazardous waste disposal regulations and procedures for safe handling of chemicals/solvents.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.

Job Specifications:
 
Education: 
Requires a High School Diploma / GED or combination of relevant education and work experience may be substituted to meet educational requirements only. 
Years’ Experience: Six (6) years previous experience or similar experience (aerospace or automotive). 
Skills:

  • Experience in planning, scheduling and monitoring production cycles.
  • Capable of performing complex mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly operations.
  • Good organizational skills to lead activities of production cycle.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and interface with cross-functional disciplines; using excellent interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion.
  • Ability to analyze and determine methods and procedures.
  • Skilled problem-solver: exercises judgements, based on previous experience, practices and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise with little or no precedent.
  • Ability to read and interpret company documents, such as safety rules, operating/manufacturing instructions, policies, procedures and interpret technical data and maintenance manuals. 
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Familiarity with modern mixed paints and thinner variations preferred.
  • High standards of craftsmanship.
  • Self-motivated with problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to use basic shop tools such as viscosity cups, paint thermo cups, and thickness gauges.
  • Ability to sand, sandblast, clean, and prepare surfaces to be painted.
  • Ability to prep parts using sanders, grinders and sandblast machine within minimal scrap or errors.
  • Possesses knowledge of materials and methods for masking and preparation of parts.
  • Ability to use fillers and sealers to fill imperfections.
  • Ability to mix, pour and carry paraplast parts.
  • Ability to use basic measuring devices such as calipers, and micrometers to verify dry film dimensions.
  • Ability to use scales to weigh out materials per manufacturer specifications.
  • Ability to use ohmmeter to perform surface resistance test in accordance with BA 5639.
  • Ability to document the materials used in the process to maintain traceability.
  • Ability to recognize and solve practical problems and painting issues.
  • Ability to topcoat, finish parts to desired appearance in accordance with Surface Criteria requirements for each customer.

1st Shift: 7:30AM - 4:00PM, Monday - Friday
