Job Overview:

Paint Prepper Technician

Purpose

Under general supervision, the Paint Prepper Technician performs final finishing, detailing, and assembly duties on assigned units within the Paint Department. This position is responsible for ensuring equipment leaving the paint process meets SCHWING’s appearance and quality standards and is properly reassembled and ready for the next stage of production.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assemble and disassemble components as needed to ensure equipment is restored to proper working condition after leaving the spray booth.

  • Inspect painted surfaces and perform final finishing work to ensure a high-quality appearance.

  • Perform paint touch-ups using a brush or other approved methods as instructed.

  • Complete minor spot and panel repairs as needed.

  • Wet-sand and buff painted surfaces to remove imperfections and achieve the required finish.

  • Apply vinyl decals according to established decal location instructions and specifications.

  • Apply full vinyl wraps as directed.

  • Identify paint, finish, or assembly issues and communicate concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.

  • Follow established SCHWING safety, quality, and production procedures.

  • Perform work according to established processes and quality expectations.

Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or modified, either formally or informally, in writing or verbally, at the discretion of management.

Physical Demands

  • Perform work on the production floor 100% of the time.

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, and work around large equipment.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed.

  • Perform detailed finishing work requiring good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience as a detailer in an automotive paint and body shop or similar environment preferred.

  • Experience with wet sanding, buffing, paint correction, and final finishing strongly preferred.

  • Single-stage paint experience preferred.

  • Vinyl decal and/or full vinyl wrap experience preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude required; previous automotive mechanic or mechanical assembly experience is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct cosmetic imperfections.

  • Ability to follow established processes, work instructions, and quality standards.

  • Certified forklift operator or ability to successfully complete SCHWING forklift training.

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of the Paint Department team.
