Automated Paint Line Operator – Structural Steel
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Automated Paint Line Operator to operate and oversee an automated coating line for structural steel beams. This position is responsible for ensuring proper surface preparation, coating application, equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and quality control throughout the painting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate automated paint line equipment, including machines, ovens, baths, pumps, paint booths, and drying systems.
- Perform the complete coating process, including degreasing, rinsing, drying, baking, and painting.
- Set and adjust paint guns, including high-voltage settings and airflow rates, to achieve proper coating application.
- Program and adjust painting parameters based on product and production requirements.
- Operate and monitor pH degreasing bath equipment.
- Perform bath controls, including pH testing and product titration.
- Conduct coating quality inspections using Elcometer and other inspection equipment.
- Monitor equipment functionality and make adjustments to maintain consistent production and coating quality.
- Follow all ATEX safety requirements, including procedures related to explosive atmospheres and automatic fire suppression systems.
- Perform routine cleaning of paint line equipment, floors, powder bins, tanks, and work areas.
- Operate cleaning equipment and ATEX-rated vacuum systems for safe removal of powder and debris.
- Maintain suction cabins and cleaning systems for powder tanks.
- Safely collect and dispose of powder using appropriate bags, shovels, and dust-collection equipment.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and replace spare parts as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on blow guns and related equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Properly use required PPE, including safety glasses, protective clothing, masks/respirators, hearing protection, gloves, caps, and protective sleeves.
- Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and production procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience operating an automated paint, powder coating, or industrial coating line preferred.
- Experience with structural steel or other heavy industrial products is a plus.
- Knowledge of paint application equipment, ovens, pumps, baths, and automated systems.
- Ability to adjust paint gun voltage, airflow, and coating parameters.
- Understanding of pH testing, titration, and chemical bath controls.
- Experience using Elcometer or similar coating thickness inspection equipment.
- Strong understanding of ATEX/explosive-atmosphere safety requirements.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform preventive maintenance.
- Ability to follow detailed safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
