Job Title:         Packaging Line Lead

Immediate Supervisor:        Packaging Supervisor

FLSA Status:   Non-exempt

Summary:    The Line Lead is responsible for the day-to-day functions of a packaging line to ensure it is operating in a productive and cost-effective manner. The Line Lead is responsible for traceability of ingredients/materials brought onto their line and the finished product produced. It is the responsibility of the Line Lead to train each employee on their team in each position to ensure productivity and employee safety through job rotation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Train, motivate and provide constructive feedback to Packagers
  • Monitor performance of team members and communicate training needs to Packaging Supervisor.
  • Build team morale through regular team huddles and good communication.
  • Understand and enforce Prairie Farms SOPs, GMPs, SSOPs, Quality Procedures and safety rules.
  • Verify paperwork is complete, accurate and completed per procedure and in a timely fashion.
  • Verify documentation of item number/lot number of all ingredients and materials used on their line.
  • Verify final counts/weights of finished product produced on their line.
  • Assist other lines in packaging and other areas of the plant when necessary.
  • Communicate with Packaging Supervisor and fellow Line Leads to reallocate team resources as needed.
  • Responsible for product and material needs on line.
  • Maintain job rotation pattern throughout the day and week to reduce risk of injuries.
  • Assist Quality team in root cause analysis when there are food quality/safety concerns.
  • Seek out, encourage and participate in continued education/training.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and understand written and oral directions.
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Must demonstrate basic math skills, and understand weights and measures.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate, understand, and write in the English language.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends.
  • Must be able to pass an approved First Aid Course
  • Must be able to perform basic computer tasks.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.  The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis.  The employee must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push/pull exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.  Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech.  There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.   There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.

Monday - Friday 5:15 AM - 2:00 PM
3rd Saturday monthly inventory (6:00AM-11:00AM)
8 hours per day excluding breaks.
