Job Overview

The Packaging Front Line Supervisor provides leadership and direction to teammates to attain short- and long-term goals, optimize team effectiveness, and meet daily work schedules in the Packaging Department. Drive improvements in safety, morale, and cost control. Achieve departmental goals and metrics by supervising packaging teammates, to achieve safety goals, productivity goals, material usage targets, inventory targets, product quality requirements and equipment yield.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure teammates perform work according to established safety rules and practices, environmental and housekeeping standards while striving for ZERO Accidents.
  • Understands customer quality requirements, assures teammates understand and follow these requirements.
  • Implements and assures procedures are followed to detect and eliminate non-conforming incoming supplies.
  • Implements and assures procedures are followed for the packaging department.
  • Partner with Human Resources in staffing and retention of packaging
  • Coordinate purchase of supplies necessary to insure functioning of packaging department.
  • Coordinate with Processing Supervisor to ensure clay supply for packaging operations is satisfactory.
  • Supervise, train and develop, and review packaging staff.
  • Plans packaging and loading operations, establishing priorities and sequences for packaging products.
  • Communicate key metrics to Plant leadership and production teams to stimulate process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Process Improvement to coordinate maintenance activities to meet established preventative maintenance goals.
  • Maintain procedure manuals and training aids
  • Establish and ensure effectiveness of packaging teammates training
  • Gather and analyze data; make recommendations for process improvements and cost reductions.
  • Meet line efficiency goals along with crew efficiencies and maximize daily packaging production.
  • Complete required reporting and documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years’ experience in a packaging environment, proven leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with an ERP Manufacturing system preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in bulk material handling and packaging equipment and supplies
  • Familiarity with MS Excel spreadsheets, word processing and Outlook. Working knowledge of HRIS system strongly preferred.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in process management to ensure production efficiency
  • Relentless determination and courage to make things happen; strong execution skills; results-oriented
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality processes, continuous improvement, and problem solving such as Six Sigma certification
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact across all levels of the organization, while accomplishing organizational goals
  • Able to analyze problems and present workable solutions
  • Familiarity with MSHA (or OSHA) regulations and practices, desired
  • Possess core values of Honesty and Integrity.
  • Experience with an ERP Manufacturing system.
