Job Overview:
Woodworker - 1st Shift
Hood Container is seeking a qualified woodworker to join our team. Woodworkers make products from lumber and synthetic wood materials. Modern woodworking is highly technical. Skilled operators use automated machinery to ensure accuracy in all phases of their work. Woodworkers do many of their tasks on an assembly line, but some customized work must be done by hand.
Woodworkers set up, operate, and tend all types of woodworking machines, such as saws, milling machines, drill presses, sanders, and wood-fastening machines. Operators use equipment to cut and shape wooden parts and to verify dimensions, using a template, caliper, and rule. Woodworkers add fasteners and adhesives and connect the parts to form an assembled unit. Finally, workers sand, stain, and, if necessary, coat the wood product with a sealer or topcoats, such as lacquer or varnish.
Responsibilities
- Operate woodworking equipment to fabricate components
- Read and interpret shop drawings to insure accuracy of assembly
- Assemble components using adhesives and mechanical fasteners
- Abide by proper standard of work procedures and safety standards when operating hand tools and other machines or tools
- Assure proper organization and maintenance of workstation
Qualifications
- Requires a strong knowledge of custom woodworking fabrication
- Knowledge of and ability to operate miter saws, and other standard woodworking equipment
- Ability to read tape measure and other measurement tools
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings
- Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools and woodworking equipment
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Organization of finished product, inventory counting and Quality Control
- Safety consciousness
- 2 years of prior work experience, preferred
