FORKLIFT OPERATOR

JOB OVERVIEW:

Employee operates forklift machine per standard operating procedure guidelines to transport raw steel materials to supply various manufacturing processes to make specified finished steel strata control products for the mining and tunneling industries meeting AST F-432-95 Standards and to transport finished steel products to be banded/wrapped for shipment per Jennmar and/or customer specifications. Employee performs daily safety checklist inspection of machine and performs light maintenance of machine/equipment prior to operation as required. Employee performs cleanup or housekeeping tasks as required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• No Minimum Education Requirement—High School Diploma/GED Preferred

• No Certifications or Licenses Required

• No Experience Required

• Six-to-Twelve (6-12) Months On-The-Job Training Required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess dependability to be consistently at work and on time

• Possess fundamental listening, verbal, and written communications skills to accurately follow directives

• Possess functional mathematical ability including knowledge of fractions and decimals to perform basic math calculations and measurement computing using tape measure and/or micrometers

• Possess ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines when handling raw steel materials, finished steel products, machinery and/or equipment

• Possess a “Team” mentality with a quality assurance/safety oriented mindset

• Possess repetitive standing and/or bending capability during normal phase duties

• Possess close visual acuity, near/far vision, and multiple-limb coordination

• Possess manual dexterity and moderate/heavy (5-50 lbs.) lifting capability while performing essential job duties

JOB DUTIES:

• Performs a safety evaluation of assigned work station and surrounding area and a daily safety checklist inspection of machine/equipment prior to operation.

• Performs light maintenance and machine setup actions as required, including changing blocks, bullit, heading tools, and/or coning tools as required per customer order specification and ASTMF-432 standards.

• One employee manually loads straight and/or threaded J-Bar and/or Rebar steel rods onto machine conveyor apparatus.

• One employee manually operates the header machine to forge a steel bolt onto a straight and/or threaded J-Bar and/or Rebar per standard operating guidelines and ISO regulations meeting ASTM-F432 standards.

• Each employee alternates after specified interval between loading and operating the heading machine.

• One-or-two (1-2) employee(s) stack finished product onto waist-high pallet and/or storage skids for banding.

• Performs housekeeping actions as required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• May perform essential header operator job duties at other header machine station(s).

• May clean slag from the slag pit; check fullness of automatic oilers; make sure hand tools are stored properly.

• Perform any other general labor duties as directed by supervisory personnel to ensure efficient operation of facility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Majority of work performance is conducted in a steel manufacturing plant environment using heavy production machinery, material handling and job-specific equipment and tools. Plant safety and machine-specific safety procedures are strictly enforced and compliant with Federal OSHA and/or State regulations.

• Safety training, written procedures, and continual improvement measuresare implemented to eliminate or control any physical/environmental hazardsthat may be present in the work place.

• Employee use of personal protective equipment is enforced for all phases ofjob performance to prevent bodily injury.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Job performance demands constant application of the following physical requirements: use of hands.

• Job performance demands frequent application of the following physical requirements: lifting (Avg. 5 lbs.), standing, reaching, pulling, bending, twisting, foot controls, near/far vision, multiple limb coordination.

• Job performance demands occasional application of the following physical requirements: lifting (Max. 50 lbs.), carrying, walking, overhead reach/lift, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, close visual acuity, upper limb coordination.
