This is an entry-level position designed to lead to full-time Union employment. Operations Trainees, usually referred to as “Casuals," are helpers assigned to the delivery and warehouse teams. Success as an Operations Trainee can lead to well-paid work opportunities through Union positions that may become available. Operations Trainees are trained to handle warehouse and delivery tasks and are utilized on an as-needed basis with flexible scheduling that often (but not always) includes five and sometimes six workdays per week.
Our internal training process is designed with thegoal of transitioning Operations Trainees to full-time Union Driver or Assistant Driver positions.Operations Trainees who are successful in this role and identified as good candidates for a Union Driver or Assistant Driver position will be trained by the company to obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).Possession of a CDL-Permit upon hire is a plus.
The Operations Trainee position is a good opportunity for an individual who enjoys physical work and wants something more than “just a job."
Wages and benefits for Operations Trainees, or “Casuals," are paid in accordance with the Union Local No. 703 IBT contract and the Chicago Beer Wholesalers Association; currently the pay for Casuals is $130 per day. The successful Casual who becomes a full-time Union employee has starting pay of $16 per hour (or commission for Drivers and Assistant Drivers); and, after more time in the job, full Union pay currently starts at $23.45 per hour (or commission for Drivers and Assistant Drivers).
