Title: Operations Manager
Reports to: Division Manager
FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Summary:

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager oversees multiple operations that control the flow of materials both to and from the location in the most timely, productive, and cost-effective method possible. Examples of these operations include distribution and warehouse. 

 

 

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the overall operations and physical conditions of the location’s facilities and equipment
  • Oversees the daily operations of the delivery and warehousing functions
  • Budgets and controls operating costs to meet or exceed annual profit targets
  • Plans operations strategies and goals, establishing each department’s priorities and sequences for the smooth flow of products to customers
  • Reviews team and team member performance on a regular basis by compiling operational reports that measure on-time deliveries, back orders, hours worked, shipments received, etc., to ensure minimum costs, prevent operational delays, and forecast both short and long-term planning needs
  • Resolves problems relating to processes, costs, orders, maintenance, inventory control, equipment/trucks, services, and systems that affect the division’s ability to meet or exceed customer needs
  • Directs the implementation of safe operating practices in compliance with company and regulatory policies (DOT regulations, forklift operations, OSHA compliance, etc.)
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Supervises employees, such as Plant Managers or Supervisors
  • Meets with the General Manager regularly to discuss sales and operational issues
  • Conducts daily team meetings with operational staff
  • Commits to continued learning on products, procedures, and more
  • Responsibilities also include interviewing, hiring, and developing/training team members; planning, assigning, directing, and delegating work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Performs other duties, as assigned



Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Proven ability to meet performance objectives and sales goals while controlling costs and expenses
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Outgoing personality and ability to build relationships with customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word


Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Previous operational and management experience of a pro building materials store.
  • Previous experience dealing with contractors and analyzing inventory activity.

Work Environment:

While performing this job’s duties, the employee must regularly stand, walk, use hands, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

While performing this job’s duties, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); and extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
