Job Hours:

  • 7:00am-3:30pm shift, Mon-Fri. 

  • Flexible to work extended hours as needed.

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Operations Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the technical manufacturing operations team, facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization. The Manufacturing Operations Manager leads a team of technical machine shop and operations staff to meet customer expectations and the corporate revenue plan, providing technical direction and efficient operations management to meet deadlines. The Manufacturing Operations is accountable for continuous improvement across the organization's teams and manufacturing processes to reduce costs, decrease lead times, and improve quality, and exceed customer expectations.As a leader in the organization, this position works closely with all departments and employees across all functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Build organizational talent by mentoring manufacturing staff to achieve their professional development goals and execute applicable cross-training plans.

  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring new employees and ensuring effective onboarding and training for the new hire.

  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and champions employee performance and development.

  • Proactively manages employee performance, administers disciplinary actions, including termination of employees according to company policy.

  • Maintain high levels of employee engagement.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of technical machine shop and manufacturing operations talent to meet technical, procedural, and schedule expectations of the customer and the organization.

  • Provide leadership, training, and education to the team to ensure they understand and follow industry standards pertaining to documentation, policies, and expectations.

  • Lead and develop a cooperative and productive working environment that provides a climate in which others are informed and want to drive organizational changes and priorities.

  • Demonstrate cross-functional leadership skills by building strong relationships among all organizational departments by providing excellent communication, showing empathy towards others, and fostering teamwork and collaboration.

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding group-level budgetary goals, including revenue and profitability goals.

  • Accountable for fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization's teams and manufacturing processes to reduce costs, decrease lead times, and improve quality.

  • Responsible for implementing streamlined machine shop, operations, and manufacturing processes or technology improvements resulting in demonstrated improvements in cost reduction, decreased lead times, quality improvements, and increased profitability.

  • Maintain knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, and applications; apply this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology and processes.

  • In coordination with the Production Control Manager, plan and organize the production process and ensure the necessary material, equipment, and labor resources are in place.

  • In coordination with the Purchasing Manager, determine the selection and procurement of manufacturing raw materials.

  • Coordinate with Facilities Manager to inspect machinery to ensure all production machinery is safe for use, working precisely and efficiently.

  • Responsible for facilitating the maintenance, repair, or replacement of damaged or outdated equipment.

  • Responsible for ensuring production and manufacturing complies with established quality control specifications and standards.

  • Provides budget input and implements the departmental budget.

  • Additional duties might be assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing operations function and manufacturing procedures.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to coach and mentor individuals to reach high levels of employee performance and engagement.

  • Cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to lead the team to tackle problems across the enterprise.

  • Good time management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Attention to detail and thorough in completing work tasks.

  • Continual improvement process experience.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical designs for the build of mechanic components.

  • Expertise in machining, fabrication, and mechanical assembly functions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software; Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Education and Experience:

  • Technical Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Engineering preferred.

  • 4+ years’ experience in a similar manufacturing sector with expertise in machining, fabrication, and mechanical assembly functions required.

  • 2+ years of leadership and management operations experience.

Accountabilities:

  • Meet the production goals and cost objectives of the department — staff under management.

  • Achieve deadlines (production, reporting).

  • Produces consistently accurate work; virtually free of errors or omissions.

  • Achieve Employee Engagement goals as set forth by company.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally be required to push, pull and move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Hearing, seeing ability to include depth perception, peripheral vision and rapid mental coordination. 

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
