Job Title: Crab Bleeder (Seasonal Assignment)
Assignment Duration: End of May to End of November
Location: Salisbury, MD (Onsite)
Pay Rate:
- 18 per hour (College Graduates)
- 17 per hour (Non-Graduates)
Position Overview
We are seeking candidates for seasonal Crab Bleeder roles, responsible for both horseshoe crab blood collection and laboratory processing activities. Selected candidates will receive training on SOPs, cGMP standards, aseptic processing, and disinfecting techniques.
Work Schedule
- Days: Monday – Friday (4–5 days/week)
- Hours: 5:30 AM – until completion (typically 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM)
Key Responsibilities
1. Blood Collection Support
- Assist in horseshoe crab blood collection per approved SOPs
- Set up and prepare collection areas
- Clean and prepare crabs for processing
- Perform aseptic blood collection
- Clean and disinfect work areas at the end of each shift
2. Laboratory Processing
- Support crab blood processing per SOPs
- Perform lab tasks such as centrifuging, pipetting, sonication, and solution preparation
- Maintain cleanliness and disinfection standards in lab areas
3. Aseptic Handling
- Handle filled and unfilled collection bottles using bio-safety cabinets (hoods)
4. Documentation
- Accurately complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
5. Equipment Maintenance
- Clean and maintain production and lab equipment
6. Compliance & Tagging
- Tag crabs in accordance with U.S. Fish & Wildlife regulations
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; 1–2 years of production experience preferred
- Ability to follow written procedures with accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent attendance and reliability
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Team-oriented mindset
- Basic computer proficiency
Working Conditions
- Work environment includes both laboratory settings and crab holding areas
- Overtime may be required
- Physically demanding role involving:
- Exposure to chemical disinfectants (daily cleaning required)
