JOB SUMMARY:
Supports the organization’s supply chain operation by coordinating the movement of direct, procured materials such as raw materials, in-process goods, or completed goods to ensure that production needs or customer expectations are met.
ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Purchases material for assigned commodities or products from suppliers, taking into account demand, price, delivery, quality, and inventory objectives
- Optimizes inventory levels and supports business objectives
- Collects data and analyzes forecasted demand to predict inventory needs; requests forecast changes based on demand fluctuations
- Collaborates with leadership on identifying and implementing improvements
- Establishes strategic, mutually beneficial supplier relations to obtain the best possible quality and service at the lowest cost
- Manages kanban, MRP, and other replenishment systems
- Problem solves supply constraints, receiving issues, and problematic invoices/accounts
- Analyzes and executes change orders
- Predicts and communicates operational and customer impacts
- Coordinates with Global Sourcing team for the successful completion of supplier approval process, quoting, and production readiness
- Supports cost reduction/improvement/avoidance/control throughout PE projects to facilitate the company’s competitive position
- Completes price negotiations within the supply base to maintain competitive pricing
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- Utilizes MPS principles to improve business conditions
- Researches and analyzes material transactions and service requirements to determine if disposition is needed, disposition parts accordingly
- Coordinates incoming packaging to minimize internal part handling
- Processes nonconforming goods with inspection or quality control personnel, users, suppliers, and others to resolve quality issues
- Participates in special projects as required
- Facilitates and organizes quarterly inventory for the location
- Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring
- Acts as a backfill for Operations Planner
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in supply chain management and 2-4 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in purchasing and/or planning materials in a manufacturing environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
COMPETENCY and/or SKILL:
- Manage moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
- Knowledge of purchasing, production and inventory control process, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Knowledge of various production floor and inventory control systems such as Lean Manufacturing principles, Kanban, Just In Time (JIT) and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP)
- Ability to lead projects with cross functional teams with minimal oversight from others
- Ability to communicate and influence peers and managers
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings
- Intermediate analytical thinking and mathematical skills
- Intermediate statistical knowledge
- Intermediate level skills with Excel and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of Oracle and Agile or similar platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO and FDA standards
