 The NPI Quality and Metrology Engineer is responsible for dimensional inspection and measurement of manufactured parts using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), portable scanning arms, and manual inspection tools. This role supports calibration control, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and PPAP documentation to ensure compliance with customer (PACCAR) and IATF 16949 quality requirements.


Essential Functions

  • Perform dimensional inspection of parts using CMM equipment, generating detailed measurement reports and analyzing results against engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
  • Operate portable scanning/rover arm equipment to capture 3D part geometry and compare against CAD models for deviation analysis.
  • Maintain the calibration control system, including scheduling, tracking due dates, and ensuring all gauges and measurement equipment are within calibration.
  • Perform internal calibration of measurement equipment per established procedures and applicable standards (e.g., ISO 17025 practices where applicable).
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, including Gage R&R, bias, linearity, and stability studies, and interpret results for process capability decisions.
  • Prepare and compile PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation, including dimensional layouts, control plans, and supporting quality records for customer submission.
  • Identify and document non-conforming measurement results and escalate as needed.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, calibration logs, MSA study results and audit documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits (IATF 16949) by providing calibration and measurement documentation as requested.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Design teams to resolve dimensional non-conformances.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in a quality assurance/metrology role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), including interpretation of complex tolerance stack-ups, datum reference frames, and true position calculations.
  • Proficiency with manual inspection tools and blueprint reading.
  • Working knowledge of calibration principles and traceability requirements.
  • Experience conducting or supporting MSA studies (Gage R&R).
  • Familiarity with PPAP requirements and documentation (AIAG core tools).
  • Understanding of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with quality management software (QMS/ERP systems) and simulation software a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience operating CMM equipment.
  • Experience with portable scanning/rover arm measurement systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and coach production associates.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with statistical software (Minitab or similar) and MSA analysis.
  • Familiarity with APQP, and AIAG core tools.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods on the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 25–35 lbs (parts, gauges, fixtures).
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site safety policy.






7:00 am until 4:30 pm Monday thru Thursday and 7:00 am until 11:00 am on Fridays.
40 hours per week.
