Job Overview:

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Operate and maintain prototype machinery, equipment, and tools (such as CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.) for fabricating prototypes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to understand prototype requirements and contribute to the iterative design process.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment for prototype production, ensuring precision and accuracy.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production.
  • Assemble, test, and modify prototypes based on design specifications and functional requirements.
  • Document and track all production steps, results, and modifications made to prototypes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality controls, and best practices in prototype production.
  • Assist in preparing prototypes for final review, evaluation, or presentation to stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve processes and recommend improvements in equipment, materials, or techniques to enhance prototype development.
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams on design feasibility and performance during prototype testing.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across various Vertiv plants and be open to travel across the USA and Mexico to support other plant builds.
  • Participate in mechanical assembly of sheet metal and metal components, including fastening, riveting, and torque application for key components.
  • Apply brazing techniques for copper piping used in water or refrigerant applications.
  • Assist in electrical assembly, including wiring, crimping, and routing of wire harnesses based on electrical schematics.
  • Apply various sealant application and finishing techniques for both outdoor and indoor industrial applications.
  • Use mechanical tools and equipment such as bench drills, drivers, wrenches, grinders, polishers, hoists, and lifting devices to handle heavy components.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ergonomics for employees assembling units, ensuring safer and more efficient handling of components. Provide feedback and recommendations to the design team to optimize the assembly process for better ergonomics.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training is a plus.
  • Proven experience working with prototype machinery or similar manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of basic machining, fabrication, and 3D printing techniques.
  • Familiarity with CAD software or blueprint reading is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, focusing on precision and quality.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

 

 PREFERRED SKILLS  

  • Experience in a prototyping or product development environment.
  • Knowledge of materials used in prototype fabrication (plastics, metals, composites).
  • Mechanical, electrical, and brazing skills are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and testing techniques.
  • Experience in the assembly of sheet metal, metal components, fastening, riveting, and torque applications.
  • Experience with brazing copper piping for water or refrigerant systems.
  • Understanding of electrical wiring, crimping, routing, and wire harness assembly.
  • Familiarity with sealant applications and finishing techniques.

 

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical ability to lift, move, and assemble heavy materials or equipment, as needed.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to lift between 50 and 100 pounds assisted

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Primarily a manufacturing environment.

TRAVEL TIME REQUIRED 

  • Occasional travel under 25% may be required within the USA and Mexico to support operations at different Vertiv plants.
