General Summary
Essential Job Accountabilities
Studies blueprints, structural drawings, and project specifications related to bridge and concrete formwork systems
Constructs, erects, and strips formwork for bridges, including decks, columns, caps, abutments, and footings
Measures, cuts, and assembles wood, metal, or prefabricated forming materials to specified dimensions
Builds and installs falsework, shoring, and bracing systems to support concrete placement
Aligns and secures formwork to ensure structural integrity and correct elevation, grade, and alignment
Works with layout tools to establish reference points and verify dimensions prior to concrete pours
Installs form ties, embeds, chamfers, and blockouts in accordance with project plans
Collaborates with ironworkers and labor crews during reinforcing steel placement and concrete operations
Dismantles and removes formwork systems after concrete has cured, ensuring safe and efficient reuse of materials
Inspects forms, shoring, and supports before and during concrete placement to ensure stability and compliance
Operates hand and power tools such as saws, drills, vibrators (as needed), and fastening equipment
Erects scaffolding, ladders, and work platforms to support elevated bridge construction activities
Maintains clean and organized work areas and ensures proper material handling and storage
Follows all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements
Education
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
Work Experience
3+ years' experience in heavy civil construction, specifically concrete formwork and bridge structures
Experience with structural form systems, falsework, and shoring
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of bridge construction methods, including decks, piers, caps, and abutments
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, plans, and specifications
Understanding of formwork systems, concrete placement processes, and sequencing
Familiarity with materials such as dimensional lumber, plywood, steel forms, and hardware
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in layout and measurements
Ability to plan work and select appropriate tools and materials
Ability to work effectively in a team environment on complex structural projects
Physically, workers must be able to:
Ability to climb, balance, and work at heights on scaffolds and bridge structures
Ability to lift and carry materials up to 100 pounds
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform physically demanding tasks
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job site conditions
