Job Overview:

About the Company

Our client is an established manufacturer of custom molded rubber components for aerospace and defense customers. They hold AS9100, ISO 9001, and ITAR registration, and they keep investing in engineered manufacturing techniques.

The Role

This engineer connects design and the production floor. You’ll take elastomeric parts from prototype through full commercialization, designing, scaling, and validating manufacturing processes that hold up at high volume. You’ll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer service.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead new product development: take elastomeric parts from prototype to production. Materials include Silicone, LSR, Fluorosilicone, Butyl, Nitrile, EPDM, and Viton.
  • Design tooling and processes: partner with toolmakers to design, buy, and validate injection and compression molds. This covers gating, venting, cycle times, and ergonomics.
  • Optimize processes: apply scientific molding principles and DOE (design of experiments) to fix cure defects, flash, shrinkage, and dimensional variation.
  • Validate and document: write PFMEAs, control plans, standard work instructions, and IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with injection and/or compression molding. Rubber or plastics industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Verisurf) for tool and fixture design.
  • Working knowledge of Minitab and SPC (statistical process control).
  • Familiarity with CNC machining, assembly, or 3D printing is a plus.
  • Must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. Person).

Why This Role Stands Out

  • You’d own new products from prototype all the way to the production line.
  • You’d work with a wide range of high-performance elastomers.
  • The work is aerospace and defense, under AS9100 and ITAR.
  • The company is stable and has a long track record in custom molding.

Benefits

Medical, dental, and vision; life insurance; 401(k); vacation and sick pay.

You should be proficient in:

  • GD&T
  • Equipment Troubleshooting
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Precision Measurement & Hand Metrology
  • Advanced Inspection & Gauge Measurement
  • Aerospace Manufacturing
  • Elastomers / Rubber
  • Injection Molding, Compression Molding, Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR), Scientific Molding, Mold Design / Tool Design
