Job Overview:

NCCCO-Certified Friction Lattice Crane Operator

We are seeking an experienced NCCCO-Certified Friction Lattice Crane Operator for a full-time opportunity in the marine/heavy industrial industry.

This is not a standard hydraulic crane operator position. We are specifically looking for an operator with hands-on experience running lattice boom friction cranes with mechanical friction clutches and brakes.

The right candidate will have strong mechanical crane experience and the skill, coordination, and judgment required to safely control heavy loads using traditional friction-operated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate friction lattice boom cranes in accordance with company, OSHA, and site safety requirements

  • Operate mechanical friction clutches and braking systems to control hoisting operations

  • Perform precise lifting, positioning, and placement of heavy loads

  • Control boom, hoist, and cable systems on traditional friction cranes

  • Safely manage load movement, including controlled lowering and freefall functions when applicable

  • Interpret load charts and determine safe lifting capacities

  • Conduct daily pre-operation inspections of cranes, cables, brakes, clutches, and related equipment

  • Identify mechanical or safety concerns before operation

  • Communicate effectively with riggers, signal personnel, supervisors, and other members of the lifting team

  • Follow hand signals and radio communication during lifting operations

  • Maintain safe operating practices in marine, shipyard, construction, and heavy industrial environments

  • Assist with basic crane inspection, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance as needed

Requirements

  • Current NCCCO crane operator certification

  • Previous hands-on friction lattice crane operating experience required

  • Strong experience with mechanical clutch and brake-controlled cranes

  • Experience operating lattice boom cranes

  • Strong understanding of rigging, load control, crane capacity, and lift planning

  • Ability to read and interpret load charts

  • Strong understanding of crane safety procedures and OSHA requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with riggers and signal personnel

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to safely operate equipment in demanding industrial environments

  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working as part of a team
