POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

A Welder will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with great deal of precision. Is important to provide the foundation for a strong infrastructure by applying AWS D1.1 Structural welds. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Apply welds per AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel and or PTT weldment standards and WPS. 

· Layout and fabricate materials according to engineered drawings, sketches, written work instructions and verbal instructions. 

· Do minor repairs to welding equipment and burning equipment. 

· Use engineered drawings, sketches, written work instructions and verbal instructions to layout tanks, tank assemblies, covers, cover parts, conservator, and conservator parts, side frames and end guides.

· Hand burn and grind. 

· Layout and shoot studs per engineered drawings. 

· Check work per drawings. 

· Complete all Q.A. sheets and welder/fitter sign-off sheets by the end of shift.

· Pick up and move material/parts. 

· Remove material from storeroom and complete the draw card. 

· Keep weld/fabrication cell clean, neat, and safe always. 

· Carry out other duties assigned by supervisors.

Tools and equipment: Welding equipment, burning equipment, remote overhead cranes, jib cranes, manlifts, forklifts, chippers, grinders, needle scalers, manlifts, ladders, tape measures, scribes, squares, levels, punches, hammers, sledgehammers, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, wire brushes, chipping hammers, jigs, dyes, and penetrant.

Personal Protective equipment: Safety glasses, leather steel toed work boots, welding gloves, burning gloves, welding hood, burning shield, flame retardant clothing, fall protection, respirator, work gloves, hearing protection.

  

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· Competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions

· A steady hand and great attention to detail is a must. 

Working Relationships

Relationships are generally intra-organizational interacting with immediate supervisor and co-workers 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· The minimum requirements are a High School education or equivalent

· Experience reading blueprints and drawings 

· Experience reading measurements to plan layout and procedures

· Basic math skills.

· Vocational weld training preferred. 

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS

Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand for periods of time, sit for periods of time, kneel for periods of time, crouch or crawl, balance, stoop, use arms, fingers and hands, talk, listen. Be able to climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision requirements must be met to perform the position of welder/fitter. Welder/fitters shall have passed an eye examination with or without corrective lenses to prove near vision acuity of Jaeger J-2 at a distance of 12-17 inches. With an eye exam repeated every three years.

Physical efforts: Moderate to heavy exertion.

Work environment: While performing the duties of welder/fitter the employee will be exposed to welding smoke, welding fumes, grinding dust, U.V. and I.R. light, heat, penetrating sounds, and elevated decibel levels, hot sparks and spatter, and molten steel

WORKING CONDITIONS

Monday through Friday and on call is required. Shift work, weekend and overtime as required.

SAFETY

Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety in the workplace; attends monthly safety meetings as required, and for new employees and incorporates various principles into daily work activities to ensure compliance; notifies manager immediately (within 24 hours) of workplace injury and ensures appropriate policies and procedures are followed; reports potential safety hazards immediately to manager.
