About This Role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Multicraft Outside Mechanic / Pipefitter in Seadrift, Texas.

As a Multicraft Outside Mechanic / Pipefitter you will provide maintenance craft-specific support to plants. You will maintain and repair all types of equipment within craft knowledge and expertise. You will require broadened technical skills in analytical/scientific methods or operational processes to perform a defined array of activities. You may act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and corrects equipment problems.
  • Calibrates and aligns equipment.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance spare parts.
  • Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications using a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders).
  • Prepare various joints for assembly (e.g., bolted, welded, etc.) to meet specific system requirements.
  • Lay out full-scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints, plans, and drawings
  • Work from and prepare fabrication sketches for other team members to work from.
  • Able to learn the techniques required to assemble high-pressure fittings (e.g. Grayloc, Wave ring, Lens Ring and Autoclave tubing, etc.)
  • Repairs, maintains, and installs equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
  • and repairing a variety of processes and rotating equipment used in industrial processing. The mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, mixers, extruders, and agitators.
  • This job requires hands-on fieldwork to determine the cause of equipment failure, locate spare parts, and install spare parts using repair procedures and machinist techniques for alignment.
  • Utilize functional, and technical knowledge, company standards, and educational background or experience to analyze and solve problems.
  • Develop and review routine maintenance procedures.
  • Act as lead craftsman and or quality focal point and direct outside contractors as needed on routine and non-routine repair activities.
  • Work Nights and weekends as business needs dictate.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • Associate degree or higher in a mechanical type craft or NCCER certified as a Millwright (NCCER Certification obtained through an Instructor Led Training Program is a preference). In lieu of a degree Dow will consider those with 3 or more years of relevant military experience.
    • 3 or more years of experience in an industrial environment as a Millwright/Mechanic or Pipe Fitter.
  • Strong mechanical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous experience sketching isometric drawings. (This experience could be from school, training, or on-the-job experience.)
  • Able to learn company piping standards.
  • Able to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays with occasional overtime as dictated by business needs. Participates in an after hour call rotation for night and weekend coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Optic and/or Laser alignment techniques.
  • Familiarity with Steam and Gas Turbines.
  • Familiarity with Compressor both reciprocating and centrifugal.

Physical Demands

  • Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Stand 50% of the time.
  • Walk for extended periods of time
  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.
  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.
  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.
  • Able to lift hoses, rigging equipment, and power tools and similar equipment as a normal part of the job.
  • Able to climb stairs, ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces and work at heights.
  • Able to traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights.
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground

Skills

  • Mechanical Maintenance: Ability to maintain, repair, and install rotating and static equipment including pumps, compressors, blowers, gearboxes, and piping systems to ensure reliable plant operations.
  • Troubleshooting: Skill in diagnosing equipment failures using hands-on field analysis, failure data, and repair procedures to restore performance and prevent recurrence.
  • Pipefitting & Fabrication: Ability to assemble, install, and repair piping systems, including preparing joints, interpreting isometric drawings, and fabricating components to meet system specifications.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Capability to execute and support maintenance work processes, including inspections, calibrations, and routine servicing to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, provide guidance to less experienced team members, and coordinate with contractors to complete routine and non-routine maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
