Position Summary

The Multi-Functional Millwright is a highly skilled multi-craft maintenance professional responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, fabricating, modifying, and maintaining industrial mechanical systems within a manufacturing environment. This role serves as a key technical resource within the Maintenance Department by combining expertise in mechanical maintenance, welding and fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, precision alignment, equipment installation, reliability practices, and basic electrical troubleshooting.

The position plays a critical role in maximizing equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and improving overall plant performance. In addition to hands-on maintenance responsibilities, the Multi-Functional Millwright provides technical guidance to less experienced maintenance personnel, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and assists with planned outages and capital improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, modify, and maintain industrial mechanical equipment, including pellet mills, hammermills, conveyors, drag conveyors, bucket elevators, augers, screw conveyors, rotary valves, gearboxes, pumps, fans, blowers, shafts, bearings, couplings, and other material-handling systems.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of mechanical power transmission, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
  • Execute structural and precision welding using MIG, TIG, Stick, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment to repair, fabricate, and modify production equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Fabricate replacement parts, machine modifications, guards, brackets, piping, platforms, and structural components.
  • Install, align, rebuild, and commission new equipment, production lines, and facility modifications.
  • Perform precision shaft alignment using laser alignment tools and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Investigate recurring equipment failures and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) initiatives.
  • Assist with troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, motors, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, and automated production equipment while collaborating with electrical personnel as needed.
  • Complete preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals, P&IDs, and basic electrical schematics.
  • Safely operate welding equipment, fabrication tools, forklifts, aerial lifts, rigging equipment, overhead cranes, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Support maintenance shutdowns, planned outages, and capital improvement projects.
  • Recommend equipment and process improvements that enhance reliability, safety, efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Accurately document work orders, inspections, repairs, and maintenance history in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Production, Electrical, and Maintenance teams to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Mentor and coach maintenance team members while promoting safe work practices and quality workmanship.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and support facility housekeeping standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, respiratory protection, and other applicable requirements.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient facility operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Millwright Technology, Mechanical Technology, Welding Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, processing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in advanced mechanical maintenance, welding, fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, and equipment installation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot basic electrical components safely.
  • Experience operating welding, fabrication, rigging, and precision alignment equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) preferred.

Working Conditions

This position is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heat, moving mechanical equipment, and changing weather conditions. The role requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in elevated or confined spaces. Employees must wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and respond to emergency call-outs as operational needs require.
