Job Summary

As a Mechanical Technician within the Nidec Aerospace business unit you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering team in the technical design, evaluation, and testing phases of new product development of electric motors. This technician will set up and perform dynamometer, electrical, environmental, performance and agency testing to support engineering validation and design qualification of electric motors. In addition, this individual will also support activities to maintain a safe and efficient operating environment in the motor test lab.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete assignments with minimum supervision using established procedures and techniques

  • Work closely within cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of engineering projects

  • Collaborate with engineers to build, assemble and test electric motor prototypes

  • Prepare test setups, conduct dyno performance, dyno thermal, electrical, environmental, performance and agency tests and document results

  • Record and analyze test data, providing test reports and recommendations to the engineering team

  • Perform electric motor troubleshooting and RMA failure analysis and generate root cause reports

  • Design and/or assist in electrical and mechanical test fixture design and assembly for prototype and production testing

  • Participate in design reviews and offer insights into the manufacturability and testability of new products

  • Support motor test lab activities including test equipment calibration and maintain lab cleanliness

  • Purchase electrical and mechanical components for prototype builds

  • Coordinate international and domestic shipment of items to customers and suppliers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology (ASEET) or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of technician experience in motor test lab environment required

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical components used in motor assemblies required

  • Strong hands-on skills in assembly, modification, repair, and testing of electric motors required

  • Ability to understand electrical schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and related production drawings required

  • Ability to troubleshoot electric motors down to the failed component level required

  • Knowledge of and ability to use lab equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies / battery emulators, hi-pot testers, data loggers, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers and thermocouples etc. required

  • Experience with mechanical tools (drilling, cutting, tapping, milling) for prototypes and test equipment preferred

  • Experience operating a dynamometer preferred

  • Familiarity with aerospace standards preferred

  • Basic knowledge of motor controls, motor hookup, and basic principles of motor operation required

  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft based programs required: Teams / Word / Excel / Visio

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment required

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to multi-task required
