JOB TITLE: Mold Cleaning Specialist


REPORTS TO: Mold Maintenance Supervisor


FLSA:  Non-exempt



 

JOB SUMMARY: The Mold Cleaning Specialist contributes to the quality and efficiency of plastic manufacturing operations by ensuring molds are properly cleaned and maintained. This entry-level position provides one-on-one training with experienced toolmakers in mold cleaning, assembly, and disassembly of delicate, intricate components; the appropriate use of cleaning agents and tools; and the attention to detail required to help prevent defects in plastic products. Work is performed in a clean, fully climate-controlled facility. The role requires integrity, precision, effective communication skills, and consistent adherence to safety standards. This position may provide opportunities for advancement within the toolroom, including Tool and Die and Machinist career paths.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of plastic injection molds to ensure optimal production quality.
  2. Inspect mold surfaces for damage, residue, or contamination and apply appropriate cleaning methods.
  3. Utilize specialized cleaning agents and tools to remove residues without damaging mold surfaces.
  4. Collaborate with production teams to schedule cleaning without disrupting manufacturing timelines.
  5. Document cleaning procedures and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  6. Identify and report any mold defects or wear that could affect product quality or production efficiency.
  7. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies during cleaning operations.
  8. Other duties as required.

 

 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  1. Education/ExperienceHigh school education coursework or GED required.
  2. Computer SkillsAbility to operate a personal computer. Knowledge of Windows based CAD programs such as Master cam, AutoCAD and Solid Works.
  3. Language Skills. Ability to read, comprehend, and utilize instructions and short correspondence with professionals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
  4. Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratios, percent and use trigonometry. Ability to read and understand complicated designs and drawings.
  5. Reasoning Ability. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. An understanding of cause and effect as it relates to mold making. Use of experience to trouble shoot and problem solve.
  6. Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences, classes or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Occasional travel may be required for company business. Overtime may be required to meet tool-room work demands.
  7. Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to stand and use hand to manipulate very small parts or tweezers. Sense of touch may be used to detect texture, burs and edges. Frequent movement throughout the facility is required. Normal or corrected to normal vision is required with good color vision, close vision, and ability to use microscope and adjust focus. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
  8. Work EnvironmentThe duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location where the work is performed within the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees may have contact with machining residues such as steel chips, grinding dust, EDM smoke, cutting oils and coolants. Safety glasses are required.
