The Maintenance Mechanic / Millwright
is primarily responsible for troubleshooting mechanical systems including presses and auxiliary equipment. In addition, this role is responsible for the planning and implementation of new and upgraded mechanical installations as well as general maintenance duties.
DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Troubleshooting Mechanical Issues & Repair
- Diagnose causes of mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures and perform necessary repairs.
- Incorporate preventative maintenance to reduce recurrence of issues.
- Plan, direct, and record periodic testing of equipment; recommend or initiate modifications or replacements when standards are not met.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Demonstrate leadership while being receptive to direction and collaboration.
2. Planning & Implementing New/Upgraded Installations
- Collaborate with engineering on setting up new mechanical equipment and designs, assisting with implementation.
- Support engineering with building, fabricating, and assembly tasks.
- Replace, repair, or adjust defective or worn mechanical components.
- Perform rigging and equipment installation.
- Conduct pipe fitting as required.
3. General Maintenance
- Perform skilled duties in installing and maintaining a variety of equipment and machinery.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures when servicing, repairing, or installing equipment.
- Conduct general building and grounds maintenance.
- Operate forklifts and aerial platforms as needed.
- Work effectively in all stamping environments.
- Assist fellow maintenance technicians with installation, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and building systems.
4. General Responsibilities & Special Projects
- Complete additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Contribute to meeting company Business Plan goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration with other departments.
- Take ownership by completing repairs in a timely manner and following up with customers to ensure effectiveness.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support implementation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with 5S standards.
- Uphold workplace safety and ensure quality standards are met.
JOB REQUIREMENTSEducation, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience with mills and lathes helpful.
- Welding and fabrication skills required.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a metal stamping or related environment.
- State of Michigan Journeyman Millwright certification (or equivalent).
Physical Requirements
- Moderate level of physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
- Ability to read and use precision measuring tools.
- Regularly lift, push, pull, and move up to 55 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Must wear appropriate PPE, including OSHA-approved footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection in designated areas.
- Additional PPE may be required depending on the work task.
