Position Summary:
Martin Marietta is seeking a highly skilled and certified Journeyman Millwright to join our maintenance team at the Midlothian Cement Plant. This role demands extreme precision and technical expertise in setting, aligning, fine-tuning, and balancing industrial motors and rotating equipment in raw mills, finish mills, and kiln. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the reliability and performance of our plant’s core mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, align, and balance large industrial motors, gearboxes, and rotating equipment to exact specifications using laser alignment tools and dial indicators, apply numeracy to take accurate measurements using precision instruments.
- Install and fit bearings (including all types of industrial rolling element bearings and babbitt bearings) onto shafts with precision required for each application, drawing or specification per manufacturer.
- Perform dynamic balancing of rotating assemblies and components.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on cement plant equipment including raw mills, finish mills, kilns, conveyors, and crushers.
- Apply critical thinking skills to evaluate the condition of machines and their components with actions to resolve.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues using vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and other diagnostic tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to determine work procedures.
- Safely Operate hoists, cranes, and rigging equipment with established industrial safe rigging and lifting practices to move heavy machinery and components.
- Fabricate and modify parts using machine shop tools when necessary.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders in the CMMS system [JD Edwards].
- Adhere to all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, fall protection, rigging and lifting protocols, hot work procedures, open hole/safety barricade procedures and environmental regulations.
- Provides and ensures a quality control check of work completed ensuring the job only needs to be done once.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Journeyman Millwright (Red Seal or equivalent preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Journeyman Millwright in a heavy industrial or cement plant environment.
- Expert in precision alignment, bearing installation, and rotating equipment maintenance.
- Expert knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, laser alignment tools).
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in hot/dusty environments.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with kiln and mill maintenance in a cement or mining environment.
- Certification in vibration analysis or thermography.
- Familiarity with shaft alignment software and dynamic balancing equipment.
- Understanding of lubrication systems and bearing failure analysis.
