Job Overview:

Description

The part-time Safety Specialist, under the supervision of the CEO, is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost- effective manufacturing safety processes and methods in accordance with OSHA and Omega Plastics safety standards for plastics manufacturing plants located in Knoxville, TN and Carrollton, TX. Recommends and implements safety improvements plant wide.

Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Identify and interpret all applicable regulatory standards that impact operations and business activities and manage plans to ensure compliance to these standards

· Creates, executes, and monitors the safety processes, management practices, and safety training to prevent all accidents in the workplace.

· Creates, executes, and monitors environmental processes and management practices to meet all applicable regulatory and contract requirements. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal

· Identifies and assesses hazardous conditions and practices, develops policies and procedures to eliminate or reduce their occurrence

· Investigates, tracks, and reports on serious injuries across the organization

· Investigates and responds to employee safety concerns, and workers compensation claims

· Performs audits of procedures and EH&S programs to ensure compliance

· Establishes metrics to track EH&S performance

· Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.).

· Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance.

· Oversee the applications for and receipt of necessary permits.

· Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


SKILLS

· Proficient use of computer; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, SharePoint; use of database software a must

· Strong organizational skills; must be able to establish priorities and multi-task

· Ability to manage projects, including planning and organization, decision making, problem solving and delegation

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Ability to train, work through and influence others

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills needed to present or communicate effectively with all levels of management and vendors


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

· 5-7 years related experience for a manufacturing plant.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Occasional bending and squatting; Occasional stair climbing; Frequent walking throughout facilities.

· Frequent reaching; Repetitive use of wrist, hands and fingers; Sitting and working at computer for long periods.
