Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal.

About the Job:
The Metallurgy Technician will report to the Senior Metallurgist and is responsible for performing metallurgical laboratory testing and provide technical support to the Metallurgy and Process Departments. Responsibilities include conducting test work, preparing production-related data and reports, and assisting with process monitoring and troubleshooting activities to support production objectives. . The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the remote mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off, or the schedule for this position can be if residing in Juneau; 4 days on at the remote mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 3 days off
Responsibilities:
- Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze process, ore, and metallurgical samples, including crushing, grinding, splitting, filtering, and drying activities.
- Conduct routine metallurgical tests such as flotation, thickening, settling, and grind size analyses in accordance with established procedures and test protocols.
- Monitor, record, and compile metallurgical performance data (e.g., recoveries, grades, reagent usage, mass balances) and report deviations or abnormalities to Metallurgists or senior technical staff.
- Assist in plant trials, test work programs, and commissioning activities, including equipment setup, sampling, and data collection.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of metallurgical processes and laboratory equipment under the guidance of senior technical staff.
- Operate laboratory and pilot-scale equipment such as flotation cells, grinders, pumps, balances, ovens, and analytical instruments.
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, calibration checks, and minor maintenance of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment.
- Safely handle reagents, chemicals, and samples in compliance with SDS/MSDS requirements and site safety procedures.
- Prepare routine reports, charts, and summaries to support metallurgical analysis and process optimization efforts.
- Comply with all site safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and promptly report unsafe conditions, process upsets, or environmental concerns.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments.
- Communicate effectively with Metallurgists, Engineers, Operators, and Supervisors regarding test results, observations, and process conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 1+ years of experience in a laboratory, mineral processing, industrial, or technical environment (internship or cooperative education experience acceptable).
- Hands-on experience with metallurgical testing such as flotation, leaching, thickening, settling, or grind size analysis.
- Experience operating and performing routine maintenance on laboratory or pilot-scale equipment (e.g., flotation cells, mills, pumps, balances, ovens).
- Familiarity with metallurgical data analysis, mass balances, and basic process troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting plant trials, test work programs, or commissioning activities.
- Preference given to Alaska residents.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to safely perform work in a mining environment, including, but not limited to:
- Working outdoors in a range of environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, wind, cold temperatures, and periods of limited daylight.
- Frequent standing and walking on uneven surfaces on surface and underground.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and escapeways.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical work for extended periods.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds often and up to 50 pounds on occasion, pushing and pulling equipment or materials up to 100 pounds, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Employees must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when applicable, work in varying environmental conditions, and participate in emergency response and evacuation procedures.
Mine Site Information:
The Kensington Mine is located within the historic Berners Bay Mining District, a region with deep mining roots that date back over a century. The mine site is a remote camp located approximately 45 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Transportation to and from the mine site happens twice per day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) and takes approximately 1.5 hours each way. To get to the mine site, employees board a bus in Juneau that transports to the Yankee Cove dock (~30 minutes), then board a boat (~45 minutes), then board another bus to the camp area (~15 minutes). Food and housing is provided on-site to employees. Rooms are dormitory style with two twin beds, a TV, and storage for your personal belongings.
