Sheet Metal Slitter Machine Operator

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Slitter Machine Operator to operate and monitor slitting equipment used to process large metal coils into precise-width strips. This position is responsible for safely setting up and operating the slitter, verifying material dimensions and quality, making machine adjustments, and maintaining accurate production and quality standards.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating coil slitting or sheet metal processing equipment and understands how to work with steel, aluminum, or other metal coil products in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate sheet metal slitting machinery according to production specifications.
- Load and position metal coils using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment.
- Install and adjust slitter knives, spacers, tooling, and related equipment.
- Set machine controls for proper width, speed, tension, and material specifications.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, drawings, and measurements.
- Monitor the slitting process and make adjustments to maintain consistent product quality.
- Inspect finished material for proper width, thickness, edge quality, surface defects, and overall conformance.
- Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Safely package, label, and stage finished coils or slit material for shipment or the next production process.
- Complete production paperwork, material tags, and quality documentation accurately.
- Perform routine machine inspections and assist with basic preventative maintenance.
- Identify equipment issues, material problems, or quality concerns and communicate them to supervision or maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Work safely around moving machinery, metal coils, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other industrial equipment.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating a sheet metal slitter, coil slitter, or similar metal-processing equipment preferred.
- Manufacturing or metal fabrication experience required.
- Ability to read work orders and production specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to make machine adjustments.
- Experience using precision and standard measuring tools.
- Ability to safely handle large steel or metal coils.
- Overhead crane and/or forklift experience preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic machine and production issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality material.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical manufacturing duties.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, and work around industrial machinery.
- Willingness to work overtime and/or weekends as production demands require.

Safety & Quality
Safety and quality are critical components of this position. The operator must follow established procedures when working around rotating equipment, sharp metal edges, heavy coils, and material-handling equipment. The successful candidate will consistently inspect material and equipment and communicate issues before they affect production or employee safety.
