Job Overview:

Metal Stamp Machine Set-Up Technician

We are seeking an experienced Metal Stamp Machine Set-Up Technician to set up, adjust, operate, and troubleshoot metal stamping presses and related equipment. This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on stamping experience, and the ability to perform machine and tooling setups independently.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate manual, mechanical, and/or hydraulic stamping presses.

  • Install, align, and adjust dies, punches, tooling, and related components.

  • Set up coil feeds and material feed systems as required.

  • Perform test runs and make adjustments to achieve proper tolerances and part specifications.

  • Inspect first-piece samples before beginning production runs.

  • Monitor press operation and make adjustments as needed throughout production.

Quality & Inspection

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of stamped parts.

  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, drawings, and specifications.

  • Monitor production to ensure parts consistently meet quality requirements.

  • Identify defects and make machine or tooling adjustments when necessary.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot issues involving dies, tooling, feed systems, sensors, coil setups, and press operation.

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments.

  • Assist with die and tooling adjustments.

  • Communicate larger mechanical or tooling problems to maintenance or engineering.

Safety & Documentation

  • Follow all machine safety and lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Verify guards, sensors, and other safety devices are functioning properly.

  • Complete setup sheets, production logs, and quality documentation.

  • Track production output, material usage, and scrap.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with metal stamping presses, press setup, die setup, or similar manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to independently perform machine setups and changeovers.

  • Experience installing and adjusting dies and tooling.

  • Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing specifications.

  • Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to lift approximately 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Experience

  • Progressive dies and/or transfer presses.

  • CNC or automated coil feeders.

  • Die maintenance and tooling adjustments.

  • High-volume metal stamping operations.

  • ISO or other manufacturing quality systems.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing professional who understands the complete stamping setup process—not simply a machine operator. We are looking for someone who can install and align tooling, perform press setups and changeovers, troubleshoot production issues, inspect finished parts, and make adjustments to keep production running safely and efficiently.

You should be proficient in:

  • Mechanical Troubleshooting Skills
  • Metal Stamping & Forming (Progressive Die)
  • Machine Setups for Production Runs
