Job Overview:

Metal Forming Setup Technician

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $17.75/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Metal Forming Setup Technician to set up, troubleshoot, and operate single-station presses and press brakes used to produce precision sheet metal components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing machine setups, installing and adjusting tooling, reading blueprints, inspecting finished parts, and troubleshooting forming issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined manufacturing professional who takes pride in precision, quality, and efficiency. Experience with precision sheet metal, custom fabrication, EMI shielding products, or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complete setups on single-station presses and press brakes.
  • Install, align, and adjust tooling for production runs.
  • Set up and operate mechanical and hydraulic presses.
  • Perform metal forming and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Set up and maintain tooling and dies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and engineering drawings.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Perform first-article inspections and verify part dimensions and quality.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, machine, and forming issues to minimize downtime.
  • Make machine and tooling adjustments throughout production to maintain part quality.
  • Work closely with engineering, tooling, quality, and production teams.
  • Support production goals while maintaining high standards for safety and quality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and report equipment issues.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Follow all company quality procedures, work instructions, and documentation requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience setting up single-station presses, press brakes, or similar metal-forming equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal forming processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Understanding of GD&T is preferred.
  • Experience with tool and die setup.
  • Progressive forming experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting a production team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and moving throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to perform close visual inspection and precision measurements.
  • Work may involve moderate manufacturing noise and regular interaction with production equipment.
