METAL ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING 1 POSITION SUMMARY:

The Metal Shop Assembly/Finisher Welder will do the final process on channels and/or grates before handing them to distribution for shipping.

METAL ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING 1 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings
• Utilize handheld tools such as a rivet guns, drills, sanders, bead blaster, and angle grinders
• Retrieve and prepare components prior to assembly
• File, bend, and smooth parts, and verify sizes and fitting tolerances
• Produces the required quantity of parts within established time, specifications, and tolerances
• Measures finished parts with tape measure and fixtures, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications
• Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces
• Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance
• Identifies out-of-tolerance parts
• Must be able to read blueprints, read a tape measure, both imperial, and metric systems
• Identifies parts from blueprint and places the appropriate identification label on the parts
• Attaches all the components to the parts
• Puts rubber infill under the visible edge
• Cuts gaskets to fit channels as required
• Polishes some grates to a mirror finish
• Puts pins in grates
• Grinds the visible edge for cosmetics
• Reports time and material used on each job daily
• Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area

METAL ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING 1 REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.

METAL ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING 1 ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

• Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
• Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
• Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.

• Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions.
• Required regularly to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.        

• Required to occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch; and talk or hear.  
• Must be able to lift, push, pull a minimum of 75lbs and maximum of 100lbs. 

• Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
