PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Support Viking through the use of metallurgical tests and evaluations in the lab and foundry.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Calibrate and operate carbon and sulfur combustion analysis equipment.
  • Standardize and operate the spectrometers, including sample preparation equipment.
  • General maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Calculate alloy additions to the furnaces.
  • Order lab supplies.
  • Record keeping, including the daily entry of material consumption into JDE.
  • Perform tensile tests and hardness tests – Brinell, Rockwell, and Micro-hardness.
  • Prepare microstructure samples and evaluate metal structures including case depth.
  • Prepare samples for failure analysis.
  • Incoming scrap inspection including chemistry verification and radiation checks.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Foundry and /or lab knowledge is a plus.
  • Must have basic math skills. Computer literacy is required. Must have good oral and written communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.

  • All foundry departments, Viking engineering, manufacturing engineering, and quality assurance.
