Job Overview:

Objective

Drive the future of mobility with us as a **Melting/Furnace Operator **with Nemak in Augusta, GA. As a Melt Operator, you will operate and maintain melting and dosing furnaces, perform material testing, and support shift productivity and quality goals. This role includes handling molten aluminum, troubleshooting and maintaining furnaces, ensuring safety compliance, and conducting continuous improvement activities within manufacturing operations.

Shift Information

Multiple Shifts Available:- First Shift: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Second Shift: Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Third Shift: Monday–Friday | 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Required Education and Experience- High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3+ years of forklift/crane operation experience

Preferred Education and Experience- 2 years of foundry experience

  • 2 years of manufacturing training
  • Technical background

Position Requirements- Knowledge of furnace operation, molten metal handling, and metal quality standards

  • Technical troubleshooting, inspection, and maintenance skills for melting and dosing furnaces
  • Ability to document operational activities and maintain process tolerances
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement (5S) and quality assurance practices
  • Strong communication, adaptability, and multitasking skills
  • Commitment to manufacturing safety standards and protocols
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting

Main Responsibilities- Operate and maintain melting furnaces and dosing furnaces

  • Perform material testing, including spark testing of material samples
  • Train new employees in operational procedures and work instructions
  • Transport and pour molten aluminum into dosing furnaces
  • Handle bulk and auxiliary materials during production operations
  • Adjust operational parameters within specified tolerances and recommend permanent improvements
  • Maintain and compile melting reports, furnace downtime records, and quality issue documentation
  • Perform maintenance on melting furnaces and other equipment
  • Repair transport crucibles as required
  • Document troubleshooting activities and corrective actions taken for error correction
  • Ensure productivity and quality standards are achieved during the shift
  • Facilitate cross-shift communication and maintain shift logs
  • Support SOS/Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities during the shift
  • Adhere to all manufacturing safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
