MEDIA BLASTER/CHIP AND GRINDER


Waev Inc. is an electric mobility OEM founded in 2021 to manufacture, distribute, market, and support the GEM, Taylor-Dunn and Tiger brands. GEM was the first commercially-produced, street-legal low-speed vehicle in the United States. GEMs shuttle people and goods across city centers, residential communities, government campuses, colleges and universities, and other micro-environments. Job Summary:

Ensures that all weldments and frame structures are properly prepared through Chip and Grind and Media Blasting.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Chip and Grinder

  • Prepares surface of weldments to ensure a smooth painting surface.
  • Ensures that vehicle surfaces are properly prepared for painting.
  • Responsible for the proper use of various types and grits of sandpaper, and the mixing, use and application of various types of body fillers and body putty.
  • Responsible for removing weld seams, spot welds, dents and scratches from metal surfaces.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 

Media Blasting

  • Check equipment at beginning of shift for proper operation. 
  • Ensure enough media is in booth system.
  • Replenish media used back in the booth system (shovel media to elevator screen).
  • Move frame and/or components into booth for media blasting (order to be directed by team lead or supervisor).
  • Move frames and/or components into paint prep area after media blasting.
  • Monitor system gauges to ensure booth is operating within requirements.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:

 

  • Ability to work with all types of hand tools such as disc grinders, sanders and pneumatic wire wheels.
  • Attention to quality.
  • Must work well in a team environment.

 

Physical Demand:

 

  • May have exposure to loud noise levels, dust, fumes and chemicals.
  • Requires extensive use of the eyes and firm grasping and/or fine manipulation using both hands.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs, bend, twist, turn, kneel, squat, reach overhead, perform strong pinch and grip, push pull up to 100lbs, and stand/walk up to 8 hours per day.
