What You Will Do:

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to support the research and development of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Material. This position is within Pratt & Whitney’s CMC Center of Excellence’s Laboratory as a Characterization Lab Technician.

The technician will be responsible for the execution of a variety of mechanical test methods including sample preparation, data collection, conducting tests and documentation.

Sample Preparation: Preparation and verification of samples in accordance with standard operating procedures ensuring that they are properly sized and marked with proper identification.
Test Set-up: Configuring testing apparatus with appropriate grips and sensors, setting test parameters (e.g. load rate, displacement, temperature) in the control software. Installation and preparation of instrumentation such as strain gages, thermocouples, setting up digital image correlation (DIC) and acoustic emission equipment.
Conduct Tests: Running fracture, shear, creep, flexural testing under controlled conditions.
Data Acquisition and Preparation for Analysis: Collecting data from test, processing data, preparing data per the requirements of engineering for analysis.
Report Generation: Documenting test procedures, results, and findings in reports for engineering evaluation. Processing data, preparing data per the requirements of engineering for analysis.
Machine Maintenance: Ensuring that machines and equipment are properly calibrated, maintained and operable. Documenting and reporting any issues to test lab engineering.
This position is 1st shift. Hours are Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.

Qualifications You Must Have:

HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

5+ years of hands-on experience performing mechanical tests on coupons or engine components.
Strong understanding of complex mechanical systems, including the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to mechanical repair work.
Previous laboratory, composite or CMC mechanical testing experience is desired.
Experience working with ceramics and/or composites.
Previous operation and/or maintenance of hydraulic and/or electromechanical systems.
Experience following ASTM standards.
Familiarity with the function and application of the following instrumentation, such as strain gages, thermocouples and load cells.
Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Atlassian JIRA, and work order systems.

The salary range for this role is $25.65 - $48.11 per hour; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
