We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support capital projects at a heavy industrial steel manufacturing facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys leading projects from planning through commissioning while working in a hands-on industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical capital projects from planning through installation and commissioning.
- Perform heat load calculations for HVAC and utility systems.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, contractors, and vendors.
- Coordinate with civil engineering firms and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee equipment installation, startup, and field execution.
- Support engineering design for smaller HVAC projects (10–20 ton systems).
- Manage execution and field oversight of larger projects (60+ ton systems).
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of Mechanical or Project Engineering experience in heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Experience leading capital projects from concept through commissioning.
- Commissioning experience in greenfield and/or brownfield environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including heat load calculations.
- Experience with equipment installation, gearboxes, alignments, rotating equipment, and industrial utilities.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, and cross-functional project teams.
- Steel industry experience is a plus but not required.
