POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer Supervisor leads manufacturing engineering support within the plant and provides technical leadership for production operations. This role drives process stability, quality improvement, throughput optimization, and manufacturability of new and existing boat models.
The Supervisor partners cross-functionally to ensure efficient, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing processes while leading and developing the manufacturing engineering team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide daily on-floor engineering support to resolve production, quality, safety, and throughput issues.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve process performance and reduce warranty trends.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, waste reduction, cost control, and quality enhancement.
- Partner with Product Development to ensure new models are designed for manufacturability and successfully launched into production.
- Develop, validate, and maintain work instructions, process documentation, tooling, fixtures, and BOM accuracy.
- Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, labor utilization, and process flow.
- Serve as engineering representative in production meetings and cross-functional reviews.
- Supervise, coach, and develop manufacturing engineering team members, establishing clear priorities and performance expectations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and engineering best practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: Associate Degree or technical training in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Years of experience: 3+ years manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment, preferably boat building, composites, or similar fabrication.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and production flow.
- Working knowledge of boat construction or composite manufacturing preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD and technical print creation.
- Ability to develop standardized work instructions and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement and structured problem-solving methods.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Effective leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
- Organized, self-directed, and comfortable balancing floor presence with project work.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly sits, stands, walks, and works on a computer.
Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
