Ascend Performance Materials is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for our Chocolate Bayou plant located in Alvin, TX. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for Mechanical Maintenance (including millwright and other maintenance duties as assigned). This will consist of removing & installing (with laser alignment), troubleshooting & repairing, overhauling, and preventive maintenance tasks of rotating equipment as well as other mechanical assets at the Ascend Chocolate Bayou site.

  • Effectively and efficiently execute quality mechanical maintenance work in target of first class, safe, and reliable operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a positive attitude and remain compliant with all safety standards, company policies & procedures, and display good housekeeping practices at the jobsite and facility to ensure a safe working environment for you and others.
  • Demonstrate your ability to use and read precision tooling, comprehend written language, literature, equipment drawings, and bear a mechanical aptitude to execute the work assignments provided to you.
  • Move machinery and equipment using rigging, hoists, dollies, rollers, small cranes, lifts and trucks.
  • Properly record and document work assignments for equipment work history and reliability improvements with written notes and SAP entries.
  • Execution of mechanical maintenance including corrective, preventive and predictive activities.
  • Identification, procurement and utilization of proper repair materials and spare parts using SAP and warehouse catalogs.
  • Participation in Continuous Improvement practices including scheduling and planning improvement, resource and materials coordination improvement, being involved in root cause failure analysis, and collaboration with reliability SME’s to design and implement solutions to extend equipment life.
  • Be able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions individually or in partnership with process operators.
  • Be willing to develop new skills and capabilities that enhance their ability and contribution.
  • Provide clear communication with management and operations team for all jobs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology or related discipline preferred.
  • Possess an Industrial Millwright Certification (NCCER) or be actively enrolled in a program to attain certification within 12 months.
  • (5) five years’ experience in the operation, troubleshooting, overhauling and maintenance of the following equipment, but not limited to: Pumps, Turbines, Gearboxes, Fans and Blowers, Lubrication Systems, Compressors, Conveyors and Hydraulic systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in driver to driven laser alignment.
  • Have, or be willing to obtain a small industrial crane and rigging certification .
  • Hold a current U.S. State issued driver’s license.
  • Have the capacity to read and update drawing and repair to OEM specifications.
  • Be proficient in the use of computers: (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, alignment tooling).
  • Have the ability to climb, work at heights, work within confined spaces, and work in a non-climatized atmosphere (including extreme temperatures and varying stages of humidity)
  • Commit to and actively participate in equitable technician resource leveling, overtime allocation and vacation practices.

SAFETY

  • Must be able to demonstrate, based on past performance, personal safety management and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Must participate working in, and continuing to foster a safe work culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory/compliance issues and ESSH policies, guidelines and procedures in a highly hazardous chemical company is a plus.

  • Proactive team-building skills with the ability to work effectively throughout the organization in a fast-paced matrix-structured reporting organization.
  • Collaborative working relationship with maintenance and production unit personnel.
