Express Employment Professionals in Lynchburg is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Mechanic for one of its valued clients in the Lynchburg area. This position will support a high-precision manufacturing operation by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and production equipment used in solar panel manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical maintenance experience, the ability to work around automated equipment, and a safety-focused approach to keeping production running efficiently.
Skills and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, or a related field preferred
- 3 or more years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience in solar, semiconductor, electronics, clean manufacturing, or similar production environments preferred
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and rotating equipment
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, technical manuals, and equipment documentation
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments
- Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and CMMS usage
- Familiarity with automated production lines, robotic systems, and PLC-controlled equipment preferred
- Welding, fabrication, or machining experience preferred
- Understanding of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices preferred
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in a production environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, heights, and confined spaces as needed
- Must be safety-focused and able to follow lockout/tagout, PPE, hazard communication, and company safety procedures
Job Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair conveyors, laminators, glass handling systems, robotic systems, and automated assembly lines
- Diagnose mechanical issues using technical drawings, manuals, inspections, and troubleshooting methods
- Repair and replace bearings, motors, gearboxes, belts, pumps, valves, and pneumatic or hydraulic components
- Conduct routine inspections to identify equipment wear, defects, safety concerns, and process inefficiencies
- Maintain and adjust precision equipment to meet production and quality standards
- Support equipment reliability, uptime, and reduction of repeat failures
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and process upgrades
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and work orders in CMMS
- Assist with root cause failure analysis and corrective action efforts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and incidents promptly
Pay and Schedule
Pay is $27 to $29 an hour. The position requires a Panama schedule, 12-hour shifts on a fixed 3-2-2 rotation, working 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off, then 2 days on and 2 days off.
