We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to transform customer concepts into high-quality, manufacturable products in sheet and tube metal fabrication. The ideal candidate will excel in design for manufacturing (DFM), ensuring parts meet cost targets while maintaining excellent quality standards. You will work closely with customers, sales, and production teams across processes including laser cutting, turret punching, brake forming, welding, and powder coating. Sintel has 2 factories in Spring Lake and just opened a new state-of-the-art facility that you will have access to the latest technology like 3D scanning, cobots, robots and more! The business is rapidly growing in Mission Critical areas.
• Collaborate with customers to understand concepts and translate them into detailed designs and fabrication-ready drawings.
• Apply strong Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimize parts for cost, quality, and efficiency in sheet and tube metal fabrication.
• Design and detail components using CAD software, considering tolerances, material selection, and process capabilities.
• Support production by troubleshooting design-related issues during laser cutting, turret operations, forming, welding, and powder coating.
• Review and approve designs to ensure they are producible within budget and quality specifications.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to refine processes and reduce costs.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions.
• Participate in new business and customer quoting process and onboarding new customers and projects as a subject matter expert.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and metal fabrication (sheet metal and/or tube preferred).
• Solid understanding of fabrication processes: laser cutting, turret punching, brake forming, welding, and powder coating.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Ability to balance cost, quality, and functionality in design decisions.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing software (Visual preferred).
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Familiarity with powder coating specifications and finishing standards.
• Hands-on shop floor experience in a metal fabrication environment.
Range: $85,000 – $110,000 per year based on experience
