What You`ll Be Doing
Mechanical Engineers are responsible for designing structures and implementing powered motion systems used on various types of machinery. The employee will be accountable for creating 3D models of equipment, drafting prints for manufacturing, and documenting hydraulic designs of normal to increasing complexity with moderate to light supervision. The employee must be comfortable working on the production floor to implement their designs
Structural:
Design equipment structures in an effective manner, both in terms of time and cost
Design weldments used as the frame of the machine or as a part for further machining
Generate prints used to create components through a typical CNC machine center
Generate bill of material (BOM) and upload to ERP system
Setup, run and understand results of FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
Hydraulic:
Design simple to increasingly complex hydraulic circuits using current fluid power principles
Create hydraulic/pneumatic schematics for these circuits and be able to implement them into the mechanical design of the machine.
Select appropriate pumps, fittings, hoses, valve bodies, etc. based on application and availability
Generate bill of material (BOM) and upload to ERP system
Electro Mechanical Design:
Design motion equipment implementing ball screw, planetary roller screw and belt driven actuators.
Work with vendors and electrical team to size servo motors and other power transmission components required for these systems.
Create accurate modeling of components and accessories.
Generate bill of material (BOM) and upload to ERP system
GD&T:
Understand different dimensioning and tolerancing methods on prints
Interpret tolerance stack-ups and effects
Understand and minimize cost implications of tolerance and machining methods
Design Review:
Proof designs created by less experienced engineers or in peer review
Participate in design review meetings, drill downs, etc.
Make sure all criteria are met by comparing specifications and quotes to design
Be able to troubleshoot hydraulic systems during startup with a Controls Engineer
Communication:
Work with shop leads during start-up of new projects
Keep management informed of project progress
Works to meet milestone deadlines
Works collaboratively with other engineering disciplines
Effectively participates in meetings with customers
Work collaboratively with non-engineering departments (Purchasing, Sales, Estimating, Service, Production)
Develop mentoring skills to help promote and grow knowledge and skill sets within the engineering team.
Communicate effectively with vendors to solve problems and improve designs as required.
Supports Service team with warranty and non-warranty troubleshooting as required
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, most commonly Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
5-7 years industry experience without a bachelor’s degree
Solidworks experience required
Ability to handle multiple priorities
Self-starter who is adaptable to work independently and within a team environment
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an interactive group environment are essential.
