Job Overview:

POSITION PURPOSE

This role is responsible for creating, designing, researching, and improving upon mechanical automation, equipment, and production lines. This role is that of a technical expert when it comes to mechanical design and provides support to newer mechanical designers on the Forpak team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Create designs per company procedures, design standards, and client specifications.
  • Develop preliminary sketches, models, and engineering calculations of new automation.
  • Detail part and assembly drawings as needed. 
  • Research to gather necessary information to help make improvements to designs.
  • Prepare calculations on proposed machine parts and assemblies, such as tolerances, dimensions, press fits, etc.
  • Provides support during the building and installation processes to ensure the machine is built properly to design specifications. 
  • Assist in the interview process for new mechanical designers and support new designers on developing their technical skills and knowledge base. 
  • Updates processes and procedures for the mechanical design team. 
  • Modify and use existing parts to assemble products and create new designs.
  • Create print packages to be released to the purchasing department.
  • Maintain existing models and drawings including revisions. 
  • Keep the supervisor informed of all pertinent information.
  • Communicate ideas to ensure successful designs for current and future growth.
  • Research and help gather necessary information to develop or improve design. 
  • Support the Forpak operations team as needed with different production tasks. 
  • Reverse engineer parts and assemblies. 
  • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and housekeeping practices. 
  • Be a safety champion.
  • All other related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION REQUIRED: 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Computer experience and knowledge using SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office programs – Outlook, Excel, and Word.   Possess a general understanding of sheet metal fabrication, machining, weldments, and electrical/pneumatical controls. Robotics experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5+ years’ relevant work experience designing industry-specific products, preferably conveyors.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Working with external references, equations and templates in Solidworks.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Lift up to 30 pounds.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
