Job Description:
BW Flexible Systems is seeking a skilled and innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Duncan, SC. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of vertical and horizontal form/fill/seal packaging machinery and product feed systems. You will play a key role in supporting cross-functional teams, engaging with customers, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality solutions that meet performance, cost, and timing goals.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems, from concept through production, for integrated packaging machinery.
Collaborate with internal teams including sales, electrical engineering, manufacturing, service, and project management to ensure alignment on project goals and customer requirements.
Participate in customer discovery meetings and provide engineering insight to support tailored solutions.
Conduct research, prepare technical specifications, and select appropriate materials and components.
Build and test prototypes, evaluate performance, and iterate designs based on results.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation including 3D models, drawings, BOMs, test plans, and technical reports.
Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and technicians to support team development.
Actively contribute to Lean initiatives by identifying and implementing process improvements in design and production.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on timeline, quality, and cost efficiency.
Participate in design reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
Support the transition of designs to manufacturing and assist with troubleshooting and field support as needed.
Travel to customer sites and other facilities as required (less than 20%).

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
6+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
Strong understanding of materials, component selection, mechanical assemblies, and machine shop processes.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent) and experience with design analysis tools.
Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in product development, particularly within industrial automation or packaging equipment.
Hands-on experience with the full product lifecycle including design, build, and testing.
Working knowledge of power transmission, pneumatics, and complex motion systems.
Experience within the packaging machinery industry or similar manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM structuring best practices.
