Job Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer will manage capital projects, use AutoCAD and design experience and partner with our maintenance team in a plant setting

Responsibilities:

· Design improvements in existing manufacturing equipment when requested, or by evaluating opportunities to improve existing process, in support of strategic business goals.

· Prepare system/machine designs based on department & plant goals, process and production requirements. Determine specifications of necessary equipment and materials. Utilize CAD software to generate concept and detail prints as required.

· Develop capital expenditure requests for submittal and approval. Obtain costs and availability of items specified and prepare necessary forms for submittal with economic justification data.

· Supervise execution of approved capital projects within the projects’ scope and budget. Ensure that project scope is satisfied, and that all equipment is operational to original specifications.

· Issue work orders and purchase requisitions as necessary to fabricate parts from drawings or to acquire and install equipment.

· Investigate and determine possible solutions to equipment malfunctions or improper performance. Coordinate engineering, maintenance, and production efforts in correcting problems.

· Provide technical assistance as required in an effort to reduce downtime, scrap, and safety hazards.

· Develop, manage, update and communicate project plans (people, cost, time).

· Perform other assignments and projects as directed by your supervisor.

Skills and Qualifications:

· Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, manage & execute projects within cost, scope and time requirements.

· Excellent communications skills required. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of management, supervisors, and co-workers in a team-oriented manner.

· Experience with technical support of a maintenance unit.

· Full working knowledge of CAD software. 3D-CAD experience preferred.

· Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to solve complex mechanical design problems.

· Demonstrated ability to lead others in support of project plans & business objectives.

· In-depth knowledge of the following:

Ø General mechanical design, mechanisms, dynamics of motion, stress and strain.

Ø Materials, finishes and protective coatings.

Ø Machine shop and manufacturing practices.

Ø Thermodynamics, heat transfer analysis.

Ø Fluid mechanics, valves, mass flow control.

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. 3-5 years combined Mechanical Engineering and project management experience required.
